The announcement of change invariably raises questions. Chief among them is, what does this mean for me? The prospect of change is regarded in a highly personal way. Among some common questions for individual contributors and managers are:
- What will this mean for my job?
- Am I personally at risk?
- How difficult will this be?
- Will I have to learn new skills?
- What will happen to the relationships that I’ve established?
- If I’m a manager, what will this mean for the organization I’ve built and the resources I control?
You must be prepared for lots and lots of questions. Just like the psychological and emotional issues of change, the burning questions on peoples’ minds differ from phase to phase and vary by perspective in the organization. Your responsibility is to anticipate the questions that are likely to be asked by different people in each phase of change, and develop answers that are as complete as they can be at that moment.
