There are two general goals for people and teams in Sustaining Change.
- Induce new values, behaviors, and approaches (processes, tools, methods, etc.)
- Anchor the new values, behaviors, and approaches in the new culture
Performance management is one of the most powerful tools available to focus an organization’s members on new values and behaviors. Performance management is powerful for three reasons.
- It integrates with development. It is an opportunity for leaders of change to establish value, behavior, and performance targets to drive and stabilize the change.
- It integrates modeling and coaching. Since performance management includes face-to-face meetings to establish development targets and review progress, it is an effective tool to model and coach at the individual level.
- It integrates with rewards. It is the perfect opportunity to link the practice of new values, behaviors, and performance to recognition and rewards.
The effective use of Performance Management requires knowledge of some basics found in the tool below.
